Most skiers wait until the first day on the slopes to move — and that’s exactly why many get injured. Preseason training helps your muscles, joints, and reflexes wake up before winter, so when the snow arrives, you’re already ready.
Even 3–4 short sessions per week can make a huge difference in balance, endurance, and control. Let’s get your body snow-ready! ❄️💪
5 Preseason Moves Every Skier Should Try
Build power, balance, and control with these simple yet effective ski-specific exercises. No fancy equipment needed — just commitment and consistency.
1️⃣ Squats – Your Foundation 🏋️♂️
Focus: Leg power and endurance.
Tip: Keep your knees behind your toes and push through your heels.
2️⃣ Skater Steps – Balance & Agility ⛷️
Focus: Side-to-side control like carving on snow.
Tip: Keep your hips low and core tight.
3️⃣ Plank with Opposite Arm & Leg Lift 🤸♂️
Focus: Core stability and coordination.
Tip: Keep your back straight — slow and controlled.
4️⃣ Jump + 180° Rotation 🌀
Focus: Reactivity, balance, and quick direction change.
Tip: Land softly with bent knees to protect joints.
5️⃣ Bear Walk + Ankle Flex 🐻
Focus: Mobility, flexibility, and lower-body control.
Tip: Move slowly and stretch your ankles on each step.
💡 Do this routine 3–4 times per week for 3 weeks before your ski trip — you’ll feel the difference on your first run.
Flexibility & Recovery: Stay Loose, Ski Longer 🧘♂️
Don’t skip your cooldown! Flexibility improves your control on turns and protects knees and back from overuse.
- Lunges + twist – 10 reps each side
- Hamstring stretch – 30 seconds
- Hip openers – 20 seconds
- Shoulder rolls – 15 reps
